Social networking for the not so young!

Come April 1st, and a new 3D social networking Web site -- "RipLounge" -- will go into beta. It's USP is it will target all those between 25 and 40 years of age.

Also, while established sites like 'Second Life' and 'vSide' are meant more for gaming- and music- enthusiasts, "RipLounge" aims to be a general, browser-based social networking place that lets your customized 3D avatar experience free virtual worlds, including hip nightclubs, snazzy beaches, and shimmering yachts.

What's more, your avatar can don some of the hippest clothing for these memorable night-outs. In these virtual locales, your avatar can socialize with a friend's avatar -- by dancing, holding hands, flirting, kissing, the works.

In addition, "RipLounge" will showcase independent music artists, offering advertisers 'in-scene' advertising.

So is it engaging enough? But why would someone want to hang out at a virtual night club when they can hang out at the real place. Then again, the same rationale's at play as is in the case of 'younger' social networking Web sites.

In any case, even if this upstart dares to enter a social networking space hitherto dominated by the likes of Second Life and vSide, it definitely doesn't sound like an April Fools Day prank.

So all you older folks, here's your chance to give those young 'uns a complex…
