Scrabulous Users In Distress

Scrabulous, the brainchild of Calcutta-based Agarwal brothers, has gone through a series of ups and downs on Facebook. Sued by Hasbro, the US-based Scrabulous addicts were uncertain about the legal action that would leave them devoid of their favorite game. Eventually, Scrabulous was taken off from Facebook.

In the meantime, the Agarwal brothers struck a deal with Electronics Arts for a digital version and re-launched Scrabulous as Wordscraper. Outside the US and Canada, Mattel placed legal restrictions on Scrabulous online.

Disgruntled users wrote BBC about their concerns and BBC's dot.life blogger Rory Cellan-Jones came up with six scrambled words describing Scrabulous users.

EEDDDLU - DELUDED: The virtual, or digital, Scrabble concept is vehemently opposed by Hasbro and Mattel since it got virally popular and drew lots of advertising revenue.

LQOYUOB - OBLOQUY: Surprisingly, no other application became as hot as Scrabulous on Facebook.

TIIOCID - IDIOTIC: Hasbro and Mattel are accused for removing the game for everyone instead of working out an alternative for a universally accepted game.

OPGNIEN - OPENING: After the web, the mobile platform would be another avenue for the addictive word game.

PNYUPAH - UNHAPPY: Facebook's growth has been sky-rocketing in recent times and they too are unhappy, since Scrabulous accounted for a lot of traffic.

BBGACEA - CABBAGE: Mattel's official Facebook application gives a sponsor's message (read ad) every time a user accesses it. Moreover, the official application is not exactly making a splash - it has a meager 75,000 users as opposed to the millions who swore by Scrabulous. And even these users have given it an average rating of 1.6 out of 5.
