Known for creating landmark graphics engines, John Carmack has reportedly been enjoying his time with mobile phones. The co-founder and game designer-programmer of iD Software, Carmack announced that something special is coming soon for the iPhone. The plans of iD software on mobile gaming platform and iPhone were reported at Forbes.

After creating games like Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake, John Carmack is enthused by iPhone as a gaming platform. Of course, iPhone as a mobile gaming platform is already gaining popularity where Carmack wants to make up for the lost time. Carmack also expressed his regret for not contributing anything to the iPhone App Store due to the shortage of resources and tight schedules.

Carmack said, "The iPhone, as a device, is in the same generation power-wise as the PS2 or XBOX. The graphics are little lower but the RAM is a lot higher. While mobile games available today are limited to 300kb or 1MB, the iPhone can handle games of 10 MB or more." He also mentioned about the possibility of a massively multiplayer game based on mobile technology, such as Bluetooth or data networks).

A few ID software game fans are reportedly working to port their favorite games Doom and Quake to the iPhone. Whatever it might be, Carmack is already impressed with iPhone's gaming potential. The iPhone App Store may just surprise iPhone owners with new iD Software games. Will be Wolfenstein or Quake or Doom? Let's wait patiently until we get further news from John Carmack.
