LittleBigPlanet fans -- bad news comes from CVG -- the game's community aspect will be region-locked, according to Sony's Pete Smith, who oversees operations at LBP developer Media Molecule.
Smith shared that the servers hosting the user-generated-content (UGC) are dedicated and are locked to each region. He went to add that sharing content across servers will not be possible due to the region-lock. A ray of hope: he did add that "we can move levels around on servers whenever we want. But you won't have access to the Japanese servers".
While dedicated servers are a boon for multi-player titles such as LBP, region-locking user-generated content will be a huge mistake on Sony's part. Everyone is looking forward to sharing and downloading levels across borders.
Art sees no boundaries and it would be a great disservice to the spirit of this wonderful game to squander an opportunity to share, over an archaic concept of locking out. We hope that Media Molecule would consider mirroring data across regions every day; at the very least. And not just levels that MM sees fit to move, but everything -- after all, what might be boring to one could be best-level-ever to another.
