Nintendo will team up with the ad agency Dentsu Inc. to launch a video distribution service. The Nikkei Business Daily has reported that a new gig is en route for generating revenue. Nintendo doesn't support conventional DVDs. It's obvious that Nintendo is looking forward to reap benefits from the ongoing trends in digital content distribution.

Nintendo and Dentsu plan to offer cartoons and other entertainment programs created specifically for this new video distribution service. They aim to differentiate their service from other online content delivery platforms.

This service is expected to go online early next year in Japan, and later during the same year will be rolled out in other countries. However, if content is region-restricted, then customers will be frustrated. Also, audiences are used to content that is Hollywood-made, tailored to Hollywood requirements, rather than something off-beat.

After there were reports about the new Wii drives recently,  we assumed that Nintendo was certainly cooking up something. So, after almost a year and a half, Nintendo is treading the same path that Microsoft's XBOX and Sony's PS3 adopted for video distribution.
