Quake Live is an upcoming browser-based free version of Quake 3, simply saying - it's the most awesome freebie in gaming history. The decision makes a lot of sense as Quake 3 is probably one of the most played games of all time. The game will be ad-supported so get ready to see a Coke sponsored Rocket Launcher and a Nike sponsored DM17.
Jokes apart I think that this is a great initiative and more games should follow. The fact remains that it's not simple to run a game like Quake on a browser, no matter how much you optimize the engine, and then there are the bandwidth constraints that are a major issue in most countries. Lets hope that they can somehow manage to run this service smoothly, which in turn will open doors to other such games. Here is a wish list of games that should one day be browser-based and free.
