HTC, traditionally known for its Windows Mobile and Android OS based smartphones, does not have a single feature phone (as in one running a proprietary operating system) in its line-up.
That will, however, change by year-end. As for the device, it is likely to be a high-end Internet-enabled device based on the BREW Mobile Platform from Qualcomm.
The phone is likely to be a worthy competitor of the non-smartphone touchscreen phones category currently dominated by the likes of the LG Arena and the Samsung Memoir. The LG Cookie is another such non-smartphone handset, but belongs to the mid-range segment.
It seems that HTC is quite bullish about this niche category of phones. We are hopeful that the company has plans to release "normal" non-smart phones for the laymen in the near future.
