The Xenium line-up of Philips is still alive and kicking. And going by the recent trends, the company is trying its best to come up with newer models to make an impact in the mobile phone arena, where Philips has never managed to create a sizable impact; although, I thought they made nice handsets.
Let's talk about the new phones then, shall we?
We start with the Xenium X700 that was seen in the wild a few days ago. The phone has not been officially announced yet, and looks like a decent mod-range device with a nice set of features. We're talking about a clamshell phone with a 2.4-inch screen, Bluetooth 2.0, a decent 3.2 megapixel camera, and FM Radio with RDS. There seems to be a rather good external display as well, and we can only hope those in-ear headphones come as standard feature as well. This one is expected to retail around the $220 (Rs. 11,000 approx.) mark. Not a bad deal we presume- except for the lack of a 3G chip.
The other one that caught our eye is the X810, which might as well be a replacement for the X800 that the company currently sells. This one has a rather largish (could have been larger though) 240*400 pixel screen with 262k color and a touch-sensitive navigation pad. Philips seems to have this strange aversion to 3G, as this one too comes with GPRS and EDGE support. As for other features, Philips has thrown in a 3.2 megapixel camera, expandable memory, Bluetooth 2.0, USB support, and other not so new features.
We still do not know when this one is going to see the light of day, but we can expect a China release first, later this year.
