LG's mind reading phone LG KF600

At the end of the war in 2008, the Blu Ray alliance headed by the likes of Sony, Philips, Thomson, Panasonic, Dell and HP managed to pip the HD-DVD Promotion Group supported by biggies like Microsoft, Intel and notable Toshiba to bag the place of being THE format of choice. This happened mainly because of the stance adopted by leading film distributors and studios to adopt the Blu Ray format. To add to the agony of HD-DVD supporters, Sony's Play Station 3 came along soon after, with Blu Ray support of course.

In 2008, the war reached it tipping point when the lone warrior of the HD-DVD alliance Toshiba announced that it would no longer manufacture HD-DVD players, thereby conceding defeat to the Blu Ray alliance. This happened almost a year ago. Fast forward to 2009 and now we have Toshiba reportedly inching towards entering the Blu Ray fold. The company has announced that it has applied for membership to enter the Blu Ray Disc Association and thereby become a licensed Blu Ray player manufacturer. And why not? Being a leading manufacturer of HDTVs and other AV components, Toshiba can no longer wait and watch. With Blu Ray players becoming cheaper and the format getting worldwide acceptance, Toshiba thinks it's time it too jumps into the fray and reap the benefits of the ever growing HD market.

So, what we would be seeing in the near future are Blu Ray players from Toshiba, a thing which was considered next to impossible, a few years ago!
