
Acer has seen great success with its "One" line-up of netbooks ever since their introduction in mid 2008. Competing against fellow Taiwanese manufacturer Asus, which has its EEE PC line-up stacked up against Acer's One, it would be interesting to see how the Taiwanese netbook war charts out in 2009. Acer expects Aspire One shipments of 6 million by the end of this year.
The current Acer Aspire One models sport 8.9-inch screens. With most companies introducing "premium" netbooks with hybrid storage and larger screens, Acer has decided to jump into the fray as well.
Asus had a model with a 7-inch screen, but it seemed that it did not achieve the threshold for laptop screen size and was not readily accepted by customers; hence, the company plans to discontinue that version to concentrate on models with larger screens.
Acer is also planning to introduce a rival to Asus' EEE Top
