Don't get surprised if you see Mumbai police now patrolling with laptops in their hands.
In a new initiative, police will be sent to different locations in Mumbai to search for unsecured wi-fi connections. All such offenders will be issued notice under section 149 (prevent the commission of a cognizable offense) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
This initiative does not come as a surprise as the recent report by Deloitte had estimated nearly 88% of wireless networks in Mumbai to be open, unprotected; and if protected, still very vulnerable. Terrorists have used these unsecured wi-fi connections to send terror e-mails in the attacks witnessed in India recently.
